GEMMA GUICH
Artist Statement
Gemma Guich views art - and happiness - as a "dialogue between herself and things outside." Her home is surrounded with views of the Pyrenees Mountains and the Costa Brava, which serve as her inspiration. Says Guich, "I believe you must truly know the countryside you are painting, just as you must know a person before you do his portrait. The land and I are on intimate terms. Each painting is like a jazz improvisation that flies to uncharted skies, thrilling with every innovation, but never totally losing the recognizable melody from which it ascends."
About Gemma Guich
Gemma Guich lives in Spain, where she was born in 1968. Exploring the intricacies of still-life, landscape, interior and figurative painting throughout her career, she demonstrates artistic agility and dynamism, capturing a "joie de vivre" in her vivid portrayals of the environment and daily life. The work of Gemma Guich, while reminiscent of French Fauvism, originates from a genuine Catalan tradition- a tradition that stems from a passion for personal interpretation of beauty itself. She lives near the birthplace of Dali, Gaudi and Miro. Her art is borne from this unique artistic heritage and derives its fondness for brilliant color from this Mediterranean region. Guich’s passion for brilliant color produces an exciting and stimulating painting surface. It is through this use of color that Guich reveals another reality- her own imagination.
Gemma Guich’s work can be found in many collections throughout the world.
