KUI DAE LEE
“Mythology is a major theme in my work. My artistic mission is to discover an identity, and origin to life, as well as the essence of love that modern mankind has lost.” -Lee Kui Dae
About Lee Kui Dae
Born in 1959 in South Korea, Lee Kui Dae earned a degree in Arts from the University of Seoul. He remained in South Korea for about a decade, where he taught arts before moving to France where he now lives and works. He earned an additional degree in Art from the University of Paris.
Lee Kui Dae’s work is strongly influenced by his origins, and his memories of the small village near a river where he spent his youth. His works contain references to symbols of identification, and there is a spiritual message conveyed by the colors he chooses, the elements he employs including the square, the cross, the fish, the bird, and the four universal elements. His treatment of his symbols creates a feeling of stability and serenity. His painting is much like an epic poem where human life is in harmony with nature.
Lee Kui Dae has received numerous awards and his work is contained in many collections throughout the world.
