IRA BARKOFF
Artist Statement
” Where the spirit does not work with the hand, there is no art.’ Leonardo De Vinci spoke these words 500 years ago and was true then, as it is now.
My landscapes are taken from my imagination. It’s true that I spent many years painting from nature, and that nature is the source of my inspiration. Having learned the principles of color, form, light and space, my aim is to use these principles to represent the world as an expression of harmony and peace.
The most successful paintings are not those that are the most accurate in terms of nature, but the ones where the state of my consciousness allowed me to translate my feelings –my deepest inner feelings – to the canvas.
I would hope that this is communicated to the viewer, and that in looking at this world one is transported to the inner spirit that exists within all of us.”
